Policy & Advocacy For Epilepsy

Our Goals And Why It Matters

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in Kenya and worldwide, yet it remains  deeply misunderstood. Many people living with epilepsy face stigma, limited access to treatment, and  inadequate support in schools, workplaces, and communities.

Policy and advocacy play a critical role in creating an environment where people with epilepsy can live  with dignity, access quality care, and participate fully in society.

Our Policy Priorities

We work to influence policies and programs that improve the lives of people with epilepsy by focusing  on:

Access to healthcare
• Advocate for affordable and consistent supply of anti-seizure medicines in both rural and urban health facilities.
• Push for the inclusion of epilepsy care in universal health coverage (UHC) schemes.
01
Education & Inclusion
• Work with the Ministry of Education to ensure schools are equipped to support students with epilepsy.
• Train teachers and staff to provide first aid and reduce stigma in learning environments.
02
Workplace Rights
• Encourage fair employment policies that protect individuals with epilepsy from discrimination.
• Promote workplace awareness programs that support safety and inclusion.
03
Public Awareness & Stigma Reduction
• Advocate for national and county-level awareness campaigns.
• Engage the media to promote accurate and compassionate reporting on epilepsy
04
Our Advocacy Approach
• Community Engagement: We empower people living with epilepsy and their families to share their stories and influence change.
• Collaboration: We partner with government agencies, NGOs, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses to strengthen advocacy impact.
• Policy Dialogues: We participate in county and national health policy forums to ensure epilepsy is prioritized in decision-making.
